Annweiler am Trifels (Trifels)

Trifels is another town that was recommended. It was about 30 minutes drive from where we stayed. It is set in a lovely forested area. The Imperial Castle is very well known, but we could not visit it as it was closed because of Covid. I found the stunning picture below on the Internet.

Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in the castle in 1193 for a few months.

I always have a look for “favourited” geocaches if we are going on a new adventure. These are ones with high favourite points that geocachers really love. One of the cutest ones I have ever seen was at the fire station. It is placed with the knowledge of the fire chief and is so well put together.

On the way there we passed a place selling Christmas trees. There was also a lovely decorated tree in the open.
